28th January v Shene OG V..................AFC Division 9 South

Result Lost 1-5 Scantlin

The day started with an early meet to get the nets up and watch some of the Liverpool Utd cup tie, then on finding a changing room we got booted out of our own room apparently the refs needed the biggest changing room for 3 of them to change in!!! Eventually the situation was resolved and we got changed. Vee eventually turned up and ambled his way on to the pitch, the first half progressed in an even way we attacked they attacked and Oscar put his body on the line several times, they eventually broke the deadlock when a shot from the edge of the area was parried by Oscar and found its way to their striker who tapped in. Barry and Thommo were combining well and the ever growing Scantlin and Chomp partnership was blooming n the middle, Vee and Stu were performing well, and Tom Young was up and down the left like a yoyo. Eventually we won a corner the ball was cleared and Brench pinged in a ball from the right that found its way to fellow full back Tom, he found Scantlin who drove in from 20 yards, the keeper let it go through his hands like a bar of soap in the shower,1-1. That’s the way it
stayed till half time.

HT : 1-1

We bought on Moss for Robin White who had done his groin. Get better soon!!!......2 mins into the half we won a corner and Vee trundled into the area ,the ball fell to his feet and he fell down like a giant Redwood tree being felled in cartoon slow motion...Sorry for laughing but it looked funny!!!! On finally getting up field I found out that Vee had done his other calf. Again get well soon!!!!!!!!!!! Brench then made his longest run of the day to seek out a sub from the 7 bench, no one was available (as Peacock was a no show & others not named) meant we only had 10 men, with only 3 defenders, chomp and Thommo had a go, they scored a 2nd and with our backs against the wall, finding any outlet from defence to midfield was hard we dug deep, then eventually they broke our guard and scored a 3rd and 4th in quick time, their 5th was a pen.

Big thanks to Paz for doing a good job in the middle and to the whole team who stayed and did an excellent job on bar duty. The two Quiz teams did well!!!!! Congrats to the 7th team egg heads and Stu, Kelly, Vee and Chomp. Thanks to tom and Barry for making a good effort with Brench.....Was a great evening, time to swat up for next year and take the title.!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT, LETS HOPE WE CAN GET ON THE WINNING STREAK AGAIN,,,, RESPECT AND DOMINATE!!!!!!!!!!!
ALL THE BEST YOUR SKIP FOR THE DAY BRENCH!!!!!!!!!

21st January v O St Marys IV..................AFC Division 9 South

Result Lost 0-2

A contrast of the good and less good in a real test of our title ‘potential’. On the positive side, we came up against a team on the top of their game and did incredibly well to keep the score to 0-2, and while we’re pretty unlikely to be pressing for honours in practice, the defeat doesn’t necessarily rule us out mathematically. On the negative side, we spurned what chances we had and man-for-man we did not look anywhere good enough to become a championship winning side.

Our plan to play 3 in the middle and two wingers didn’t happen as planned with Uzzy pulling out on Saturday morning and Alex having a torrid time. They scored a pretty decent goal, cross from the right behind our line, I didn’t cut out and found their RM in a one-on-one. An unhappy Alex then got a load of shirt pulling from their centre forward who clearly knew exactly what he was doing and Alex fell for it, yellow card, a subdued first half, albeit one half chance to score, and subbed at half time.

The end result was a somewhat unbalanced formation, with Thommo not really in the middle and Craig doing his level best at right midfield but not really looking the part, when really we wanted him in the middle. Barry and Thommo were feeding on scraps as the oppo dominated, but the odd won header and the odd classy touch and lay-off don’t really suggest what we kind of already know, that Barry and Thommo are probably competing for the same place and we’re lacking a partner for them to feed and feed off.

There were some excellent performances though … Richard Martin came in at goalie at very late notice and drove, looked every inch a higher team goalie and kept us in right in it to the end. Stuart was superb throughout and had to be especially sharp at the end as I committed more and more to try and get a goal. Vee was also excellent and Scantlin played out of his skin working up and down the field. Chompalov had his work cut out against a superb central midfielder. Brench had a bit of an off day and was replaced by Barry’s friend Daniel Wilson, who wasn’t as good as Brench coming on but no disgrace on a cold day debut against the leaders.

Their second goal came 20 minutes from the end but it could have come from any number of their attacks as they were a very decent side. Just a little unfortunate that Richard and I collided advancing at the same time on their unmarked right midfielder. Phil Rust’s defending reminds one of Arshavin, but he can attack like Oxlade and made good inroads with our only real demonstration of pace and I took up more and more of the space behind him, finally breaking into the area, getting tripped, no penalty but our only corner with the (severe) wind. Perfect delivery onto Vee but on top of him, so straight over the bar.

Overall, you cannot fault the titanic effort we made, they would have given quite a few teams a severe thrashing. Find ourselves a goalie and a predator striker and who knows …

Lost 0-2

14th January v O Sedcopians V..................AFC Division 9 South

Result Won 2-1, Chompalov 2

A potentially very important win for the 6s, stand-in Skipper, Matt B, has written a totally impartial report which I have only mildly censored …

The day started with an 11.30 meet at Loop Road, looking at the frosty pitches and lingering fog, Thommo and Brench phoned Matt lane to get a number to contact Sidcup and find out if the match was still on, it was!!!. We left bang on 11.45 and as soon as we got on the A3 the fog had gone and the fields were green, We entered the sub tropical climate of Kent and stopped of at Clacket lane services to fuel up on Red Bull and Lucozade. Arriving at Sidcup to their B ground at the leisure centre and after some antics parking the 10 of us got changed and made our way to the field. The team in good spirits started passing the ball around when Barry got attacked by the invisible man. At this stage still 10 of us, where the xxx was Scantlin, then in the distance a familiar shadow appeared he was here, we had 11. Scantlin had missed junction 3 and nearly found his way to France. Thank xxx he had found his way.

The ref called up the captains and Brench won a vital toss, We changed ends to avoid the sun and kicked of down hill. We started of well high tempo passing and moving, Uzzy was killing there defence, Scantlin and Chomp were all over their midfield, and Brench was finding himself in all kinds of ground on the right, We were causing havoc and creating chance after chance then suddenly a long ball came over Brench shoulder, their winger got onto it and laid a ball on we were 1-0 down. The rallying cry came from the stricken captain and vice Barry. surely we couldn’t lose this game!!!!! We then proceeded to attack and set up camp on the half way line, Vee and stu got out there pipes and slippers and Oscar got out his sleeping bag, Brench was running free and wild once again, as wave afer wave of attacks came in, Vee awoke from his slumbers and came into attack as we had 5 corners in a row, eventually they cleared ther lines. Uzzy chomp and Brench combined again chomp crossed the ball in and it sailed over their keeper and into the net. We were back in the game.

Half time 1-1 we could have been out of sight.

We started of the second half in much the same way, until they eventually broke through the half way camp, sleeping bags and billy cans rattled they were through 3-1 with Oscar who stayed at home and made an awesome save, 5 min later the same again and yet again he kept us in the game, we needed to wake up!!!!! Then some crazy lady came over with a bit of paper in her hand shouting about something, It was Oscar’s car blocking her in, game stopped whilst he went to move it. On his return to action we pressed forward once again, sensing the game was there for the taking Brench crossed in Thommo headed there keeper made a fine save, then again we broke and Uzzy was through he was brought down we had a free kick. Up stepped Chomp.25 yds out, it looked like it was going over then suddenly dipped over their keeper 1-2 away from home the come back kids again. 10 to go and Uzzy decided it was time to play for the corners and ran 15 yds with the ball at his feet to the corner flag, a little to early for that!!!!!!! we pressed on again and nearly finished the game off when Brench broke again and crossed in with Barry heading to the side netting.

Full time 1-2 to the Old Wokes.

A big thank you to you all for your support and contributions to the weekend’s effort. Thank you to Oscar, Chomp and Alex for driving. Another away trip to OSM next weekend lets be up for this one lads we can still win the title. Thank you all once again was a fantastic display all over the park.

Kind regards
